WOW Factor! Royal Caribbeans Oasis of the Seas Breaks the Mold
Everyone was expecting big things from Royal Caribbean, they have been setting trends in cruising from the companies inception. How big though? When they began to build their newest class of ship ‘Oasis of the Seas’ scheduled to debut in late 2009 they only said it would be 220,000 GRT and have a 5,400 Guest Capacity within its 2,700 staterooms. Many were amazed by the numbers alone.
Recently when Royal Caribbean gave us all a first peek into this new ship by unveiling one of the new spaces called “Central Park”. Central Park literally took the roof off of this cruise ship. Central park has no roof and is open to the skies with all of its elements. It has balconies over looking live gardens and trees in a park like setting. People I showed the images to, loved what they saw. They were amazed this was actually a cruise ship.
What would they think of next?
This week Royal Caribbean unveiled even more details of the new ship design. If an interior park were not enough, how about having a Zip-Line running through the ship over a seaside Boardwalk neighborhood. As your flying overhead, you can look down below at the Merry-Go-Round, Fortune Teller and Cotton Candy Machine. If you need a show, just head to the aft area for another first of its kind.. an AquaTheater. It will feature the largest and deepest freshwater pool at sea at 21.9 feet (6.6 meters) by 51.6 feet wide (15.7 meters), with a depth of 17.9 feet (5.4 meters). Underwater Cameras and Led Screens that flank the stage will let guests view all of the action with its nightly shows. It will also have choreographed fountain shows with hundreds of water nozzles and allow water to shoot up to 65ft high all programmed to music and lights. If your getting tired and want to head back to your stateroom, you can now have your own loft suite. Yes, A loft. The ship will have 28 special loft suites with floor-to-ceiling windows to provide ocean views from any angle along with a private balcony. Each loft, which will measure 545 square feet (51 square meters) or larger. Learn more about the Loft Suites and Ships Accommodations – Click Here
Remember the Royal Promenade on the Voyager and Freedom Class ships? They have made it even better with Eight retail outlets and Nine Restauraunts and Bars. Another first for the cruise line is that the Royal Promenade will serve as the entry point for all guests embarking on Oasis of the Seas, rather than the traditional lower decks. A vast tree sculpture by international artist Larry Kirkland will serve as an impressive welcoming spot. The Royal Promenade will also have natural light cascading down from the sky above. Giant glass-arched skylights, the Crystal Canopies, will form a sculptured roof that will look up into Central Park and the sky beyond.
